News from September 14th Meeting

It was great to see Angie, Patti, Julie, Marsha and Bob there!

1. Our new member, Marsha Martin, 2013/14 Sec/Treasurer was sworn in. What a great way to end Julie's Presidential year with a new member. Marsha is ready to rock and roll her way into the future of Optimism.

2. Guest Speakers Jordan Roldan, President of Jerome FFA Chapter, Nick Avila, General Member and Advisor Nicole Lebsac. Because of the Jerome FFA Chapter's accomplishments at State and Districts they have an opportunity to travel back east for a conference October 27th. The Chapter had to put in more than 200 hours of community service to attend this conference. They will have the opportunity to meet with thousands of other fellow FFAers. They will attend exhibits and workshops and be given the opportunity to share their knowledge of Idaho. They have raised almost $10,000 and need another $3,000 to make their goal. This Friday, Sept 20th at Jerome High School they will sponsor a tailgating party prior to the Homecoming Football game with pulled pork at $10 per plate. All the proceeds will go towards the Jerome FFA Chapter. The Club voted to make a $200 donation and will present the check at the Tailgating Party. We would love for you to join us, just let me know.

It was an awesome presentation by both young men. Nick is very appreciative of his experiences. He was eager to find out more about Optimists too. We learned that Jordan is also known as "Napoleon Dynamite". One of our lifetime members Bob Helms shared that he too was part of the Jerome FFA when he was a young lad not too many years ago. AND we also learned that Nicole Lebsac's advisor while in FFA when she was young was none other than Ms. Julie's Dad, Denny Naylor.

Other things:

1. Breakfast with Santa should be December 14th but we are waiting for confirmation of the date. When you hear, make sure to mark your calendar. Julie has agreed to chair.

2. Coats for Kids - thanks to a secret Member (who is pictured above with our guests) we now have a coat rack for the boy coats. We hope to soon have a rack for the girl coats. This will definitely help with inventory. Sheri is chair if you have any questions

3. Toys – we have toys from Wal-Mart. We are looking for ideas of how to distribute them to the youth of our community. We were thinking of contributing to the Jerome Rotary Christmas Baskets but need someone’s input.

NEXT MEETING –

Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:30 p.m. – Jerome Senior Center

President Sheri Mitchell and Sec/Treasurer Marsha Martin will be in charge. Your support is greatly appreciated.
